BLACK CAT DAY

Scroll to the bottom for a date paint night black cat painting if you want to skip my small story about the black cats in my life.

I had a black cat when my 2 oldest were babies, she was so sweet and so loved by me.

Pantera became trapped in our home in the summer of 1998 when our brand new dryer caught fire.

Long story short it over heated and our insurance company did go after the manufactor for the damages.

We had 3 cats at the time and a dog, the dog ran to safety in our neighbours yard, our neighbour, who we barley knew as we had just purchased this house at the end of 1997,was the one who saw the smoke going out the dryer exhaust and came banging on our door.

The fireman managed to find 2 of out of 3 of our cats and bring them to safety, Pantera was hard to locate as she was pure black, as the house become riddled with smoke she and the others hid, she was eventually located but unconscious.

The firemen worked on her giving her CPR and oxygen, she came back to but sadly a few months later we had to have her put to sleep as the brain damage was very apparent and our vet said medication was unlikely to help, she was not even 3 years old.

I’ve looked up and down for photos of her, we had a pipe burst in our storage room a few times and we did lose a lot of our photos that were in bins.

One I remember vividly is of Pantera on the back of a brown plaid couch we had, licking my short hair ( bathing my head was one of her favourite things)

FFWD 15 years, our daughter brought home this adorable little black kitten, who she named Oreo, but since then me calling her miss kitty has stuck, many still call her Oreo.

I have been highly allergic to cats since I was 19, and yes I still had cats, as long as I didn’t pet them I was ok, other’s cats if I was just near them it triggered horrible reactions though, on this day with this adorable black kitten two things happened.

I realized I was no longer allergic to cats, and have not been since ( 6 years)

I fell in love with a black cat again, I had not had the heart to since losing Pantera.

One of her fave spots is on our crates of records, so much so that I crochet a blanket and draped it over this crate just for her lol.

Hubz and I recently did a you tube paint date night, I know so many people do the paint night events, for me I like the comfort of my own home as I deal with a lot of health issues that interfere with outings.

We have been able to find many on you tube luckily and this Halloween one is what we did this year, thank you everyone who shares there tutorials!

And click HERE for a cheat outline template of the cat, we did our paintings on 8 x 10 canvases.

Once the background and fence was done and dry ( about 20 minutes) we used carbon paper to trace the cat into the canvas and the painted it.

I seen a Micheal’s maker event recently where they too had templates to carbon paper onto the canvas to paint, I feel trendy now and not so bad for doing so lol.

You can make one as a Christmas gift for a cat lover if you can’t squeeze one in before Halloween this year

Some of my favourite  black cats are KITTY from The Munsters

SALEM from Sabrina The Teen Age Witch ( the original)

Not only are black cats cool little felines to have around, they go quite well with Halloween decor. Which is why National Black Cat Day is a good day to celebrate. So give your favorite black cat a gift on this day or maybe some extra appreciation. And if you inclined to post pictures of your black cat on social media, be sure to use the hashtag #NationalBlackCatDay.

    • I have had many too and I hurt hard and cry even decades later when. I think of some. Hubz says he doesn’t know why I torture myself, adopting more when the others pass. My heart would shatter even more if I didnt have a fur baby to love always, and I know I will give them the best life and if I can just save one more its worth the sad at the end of their lives…but he is right I never get use to it and Ill ugly cry every single time

  2. I love cats, but I’m highly allergic, your painting would make a nice replacement LOL! Thanks so much for sharing your talent with us at the Creative Muster. Looking forward to seeing what you’ll be sharing next week. Pinning!

  3. I love your paintings and the stories of Pantera and Oreo / Miss Kitty. I’m so sorry you lost Pantera when she was so young. I know the feeling. I had to have a 2 year old orange tabby put to sleep due to a fungal infection. And I had one black kitty. He was quite the character. And dearly loved.
