Hubz and I found this 3 ft shelf while out thrifting last fall and he immediately said to me, make it into a Halloween house!
He had loved this little one I had made so much, and knew I could make this one into something similarly as good.
Once I got it home I couldn’t phantom having to store it every year after Halloween so I set out to try and make it into an interchangeable house for Halloween, Christmas/Winter, and Summer
I ran into one major problem, most, if not all the figures I could find for Christmas were outdoor themed.
So the holiday “village” dispaly was born.
I painted the shelf black, the walls grey and stained the “roads”, truth be told I had it all done by the time I realized it would not be a “house”, and the roads were actually hardwood floors.
I had a few figures from last year but mostly purchased them all this year at Micheals
During sales and with coupons only of course!
Between them being not creepy for very cheapy, and the shelves only having a few I really liked, the town is a little thin this year.
To fill in gaps I have made some tape case signs ( tutorial HERE)
Popsicle stick “pallet” art and scrap wood houses, I plan on making similar ones for Christmas
FOR THE SCRAP WOOD HOUSES
They are made with inexpensive 2×4 wood, cut down to fit in the self, I painted them and then distressed them, the roofs are plastic canvas but you can use cardboard or simply paint the tops black.
The doors are jumbo Popsicle sticks cut down, painted black, then the tip of a paint brush dipped in silver paint for the door knob.
The windows I designed and printed on card stock then used tacky glue to adhere them to the wood.
You can find the windows to print HERE

What a cute display! I love the little wood houses. Our Dollar Tree used to have small Halloween houses for villages sort of like the ones for Christmas. I haven’t seen any this year, though. I wish I would have grabbed them when I saw them! 🙂

I have not seen halloween houses other then at micheals! I needed some somewhat flat to not take up too much space on the shelf.

Funny story. When I bought my home at 21 my dad gifted me a nativity set for my first xmas here. The cats for years kept stealing baby jesus even if when I hot glued him in. My faith isnt that of my parents but I still display this cute carved nativity set on one of my blanket ladders. I think an entire bookshelf would be adorable as one.
