This recipe was created one day when I was preparing lasagna sauce for our son’s birthday and found myself with 2 pounds of thawed ground beef and only needing one. I also had all these veggies on hand.
I thought to myself what can I make, hubz was at work and that Friday evening was meant to be whatever for dinner so I thought to myself, the boy loves shepherd’s pie and I love him so let’s surprise him after a long day at work with it.
A few things lead to me naming it I LOVE YOU SHEPARD’S PIE
A: because he loves it so it’s like saying I LOVE YOU, SHEPARD’S PIE
B: because I love him and wanted to surprise him
C: because I HATE Shepard’s pie and I told myself I’d have some with him because I love him and he loves it.
UPDATE: I HAVE SINCE THIS RECIPE WAS CREATED GIVEN UP BEEF AND PORK, 2 YEARS AND COUNTING, IT TASTES AS DELICIOUS WITH GROUND TURKEY AND WE STILL MAKE IT OFTEN

I love Sheppard’s pie and never seem to make it the same way twice; lately we’ve been using ground turkey in place of the ground beef and the only one who claims to notice is my older son. Pinned.

Thank you for the pin. Often i use ground Turkey or pork in our recipes….no one “notices” but if they knew i bet they’d claim to notice lol. This day i had beef frozen from making home made burgers in the summer….usualy for lasagna its ground pork

I’m loving this recipe too. I make a Shepherds Pie, but I see a couple of extra things to add in your recipe.
Thanks for sharing.
