I must admit I have not always been a huge hamburger lover, beef has never been my favourite, ground even less. I always did enjoy a McDonald’s Quarter Pounder though, and now it is still one of my go to fast food burgers, along with a Big Mac and a Whopper.
As my tolerance for ground beef grows so does my taste for a good home made burger, aside from the vegetarian Portobello mushroom burgers I enjoy, no frozen burger lives up to that of one made from scratch.
When I found the recipe for a bone dust that I use on chicken wings, you can find the recipe HERE , I also found a blend used for home made burgers, with some adjustments to fit our taste buds we have used it for many years to make delicious burgers that only require ground beef, butter and this tasty dust.
Click HERE for a printable recipe card. It tastes great on steak as well.
½ cup salt
¼ cup white pepper
¼ cup black pepper
1/4 cup mustard powder
1/4 cup ground coriander
¼ cup garlic powder
¼ cup onion powder
¼ cup dill weed
Mix all the above in a medium bowl well, transfer into a mason jar.
Bulk Spices are the best to make these blends up.
To make the burgers for each pound of ground beef add 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of the dust and 1 tablespoon of softened butter ( not melted)
Mix well and form into hamburger patties ( we do 2 pounds of beef and get 6 good sized burgers)
Chill them a few hours before grilling or pan frying, adding cheese at the very end to melt.
We serve ours on regular hamburger buns toasted, or on a nice crusty Kaiser bun. Our sides include chips, onions rings, fries, or poutine.
Below is a shopping bag I made with retro McDonald’s bed sheets! I wish they’d bring back cool happy meal toys, merchandise like these bed sheets, oh and their PIZZA!
If you find cool bed sheets on your thrifting adventures, you can find my tutorial on sewing shopping bags HERE

Thanks for the recipe. To me, my hamburgers always turn out bland. I’m looking forward to trying this.
Your welcome! Hubz and I visited a “homemade” burger chain for Valentines day and we both agreed they were so bland! I love this dust in burgers as well as on steak and i use it in my breakfast hash or pan fried breakfast potatoes

Love that bag.
Ive found this fabric twice now, lucky me! I love all the old characters on it too.. when McDonald’s was whole childhood!
Sounds delicious!! I could eat burgers every day. 😀
I prefer chicken burgers or fish fillet, but these have grown on me the last little while
Cute bag! Having grown up on a cattle ranch I’m super picky about beef but there’s nothing like a good burger.
