I started these Halloween miniatures last year when I saw Michaels store brand miniatures, I know most people like the Lemax brand, but not me.

I set out to find something to build my display in, when at a thrift store I came across a wooden briefcase type thing, pretty sure it was one of those art supply cases at one time.

I sanded the case and rubbed some black stain on it to give it a weathered spooky look.

I used dollar store moss I hot glued down onto a piece of plywood I cut to fit the bottom and raised it by attaching small wood slats to the side of the case which the plywood then sat on.

The background is a piece of wood that came with the case that slides in and out but you could paint right on the inside of the lid, I painted it dark grey and added a full moon I painted on as well.

The little pumpkin shack I found thrifting a few years ago and it sat in my stash until last year when I painted it for my pumpkin patch village.

All the miniatures are from Michaels purchased with coupons and during sales.

This year over the summer I picked up a small unfinished wooden cabinet that I didn’t know at the time but it would become my Halloween miniature house.

I spray painted the inside walls with a hammered type silver paint, the roof in a flat black paint and the rest in a dark grey chalk paint.

I used burlap, white glued down for carpet

The frames and tables are dollar store table chalk signs I took apart (like those used at weddings for table numbers)

They were wooden frames around chalkboard pieces, a round base it stood on and a dowel that connected the base to frame

I cut the dowel as close to the frame as I could then used a dremmel to sand it flush.

I took the base still attached to the dowel and trimmed it to fit in the hole of an empty thread spool, hot gluing it on and rope around it.
I had 2 bottle stoppers made of plastic that made great table bases as well.

For the pictures I printed pictures designed to size and used a glue stick to put them on, Halloween scrap paper would look great too, or even stickers. I hot glued the frames to the walls.

I stained the table tops and frames but paint of course is an option.

It is filled with more miniatures purchased at Michaels this year

Lastly I picked up a wooden bowl for $1 this summer as well and as I was admiring it one day it slipped out of my hands and part of the edge snapped.

To use it up I sawed it in half and used the good half screwed to a scrap piece of plywood I shaped into a tombstone.

Chalk painted it all in dark grey and hot glued some moss on the bowl (its screwed on upside down to create a flat surface)

I  placed Lemax tombstones on it (hubz wanted them not me lol)

I feel the back of the headstone needs something but I’ll have to ponder that over.
Its not too late to start one yourself, or perhaps find something unique to make a Christmas scene in, I have some of those to share soon too…November will be here before we know it.
