CROCHETED BARBIE SIZE BLANKETS

Summerween is in full swing here, although it’s more like Hallowmas (Christmas and Halloween crafts in progress everywhere)
I hate that summer is almost over and that September means my nieces and youngest head back to school and our holiday time with hubz is also coming to an end. However September means Halloween décor time! Yes we are those people who have the lawn decorated 2 months in advance.
Today’s share is not an outdoor project or a décor piece, it is however exactly what scrappy weekends are about, a scraps project, this one from leftover yarn I am using on a Halloween blanket.
I picked up crocheting again a few years back (more like 5-6 years) I was never more than a beginner and have actually become better in only the last couple of years, I’ve known the basics since I was a young girl.
I have made blankets in the past with basic stiches, donated them when bored of them, and lost some in our flood, so I am making myself a new Halloween one in a newly learned stitch, ripple / chevron.
I took the ends of yarn along the process of the blanket and made up a pattern for a miniature version for Barbie dolls, my youngest niece couldn’t wait to take them home to her dolls. I plan on making some for the much loved elf on the shelf as well.
My children are grown up and my nieces are not so little anymore either, making these reminded me of simpler days, when they all were young and the smiles I received when I’d make them things.
I mention my dad a lot in my posts, but this project took me back when I was little and my grandma (dad’s mom) received those exact smiles from me. She made many things for my dolls and how I wish I had just some of it still, she was 90 and I 18 when she passed (she had dad in her late 40s), I thought she would live forever, I suppose my heart just wished it.
Many moons have come and gone but I will always remember her gifts to me, thinking back as I watched her, as if by magic she made those things.
I can only hope I’ve given the little ones in my life the same good memories, perhaps todays share will be made by you and bring a smile to a little one in your life.
In loving memory of my Avó (grandma)
RIP September 1994.
Happy Scrappy Saturday
Please find the pattern below the pictures
I used my Halloween Barbies (Begoth series dolls) for these pictures, my nieces kindly lent me a few of theirs for measurements for the pattern. The blankets are 10.5 inches long but can be made shorter or longer.
I did these in Halloween colours but of course you do them in any colours you choose.
I was thinking they would be great for a small plushie toy as well.

SUPPLIES
4 ply yarn in multiple colours of choice ( I use Loops & Threads- Impeccable yarn from Micheals)
5mm Hook
Yarn sewing needle to weave in the ends
Done in single crochet stitching -SC

Chain 38
Starting the row-SC into second hole from the end, SC 4 more stitches into the next 4 holes (5 TOTAL)
* SC 3 stitches into the next hole.
SC 5 stitches into the next 5 holes
Skip 2 holes and SC into the third hole, SC 4 more stitches in the next 4 holes ( 5 total)
Repeat from * above and continue to the end, chain 1.
For the second row and every row until the end you will repeat the above, but you will SC into the back loops only of your holes. This creates the raised ripple effect.
Taking note you will be 1 stitch shy at the very end of each row now.
The stitch is called ripple or chevron crochet if you need to look up any videos.
Once your blanket is at the length you like cast off and weave your yarn ends with the needle.
These are approximately 10 inches long.
