Our house has 4 floors, 2 main and 2 basement, commonly known as a super back split. The 1st basement floor has always been a living room of some sort, for many years it was the only living room.
Our now upstairs living room was a dining room and the basment our living room, pefect because the kids playroom was right off of it and our second bathroom.
As the older kids outgrew the playroom and apparently it wasn’t cool to hang out with your parents and teen friends, we nixed the dining room and our house then had 2 living rooms, the lower one known as the den.
It has seen many styles but it was hard to style around every video game console known to man, and also make it functional for teen hangouts and sleepovers. I’m not complaining I quite miss the 3 am “shhhh time for bed” hubz and I would call from upstairs, but the one good thing about all that ending is I now can have it looking more “decorated”
A few years back is when it started it’s transformation from hang out den to “our cabin”. Even after the flood when contractors told us to update the look I was insulted, I loved my wood paneling (although a decade outdated- my late dad had installed it in the late 90s) I had decorated my cabin around it.
When we rebuilt it a I found wood paneling, apparently its coming back, in a barnboard look and I returned our den into our cabin.
I kept the wall colour the same, a khaki like dark tan, I had a can left of it as we had just done it shortly before, I did my best to decorated it the same.
The décor in it is 99% thrift store, and garage sale finds. The nearly new (looks like new) couch set cost us $30 (I often wonder how new or nearly new things end up donated)
I set out the summer before our remodel (pre-flood) to find knick knacks that I thought would be found in a “cabin”, they are displayed up high on the wall on wooden planks I stained weathered grey for shelves.

Our printer stand, falls in the category of vintage, my late dad built this in the 70s, I believe they are known as magazine racks (under the printer opens up) it was stained nice and dark and now I wish I had not painted it years back.
This oar was in hubz boss’s barn, he was tossing 2 away (one was turned into a snowman) this one had damage and duct tape marks, he couldn’t figure out why I’d want it lol, it is one of my favourite pieces, I had wanted a beat up looking one for the wall so bad, for so long.

Here is some of the artwork I found, some may find it tacky or old but when I envisioned this cabin I thought; if I had a cabin I would hope it was passed down from generations past and with it would come bits and pieces of long ago, and I love how a lot of these look to be handmade, by someone long ago.
This little table which I think may be a stool, was found when I was on the hunt for a “table” narrow enough to fit here in front of our handmade ladder to paint blue. I ran into this at a thrift store for a whopping $2.99, already blue! As you can see we like lanterns as well.
These tables where purchased from and older couple selling their home and downsizing, the tops had seen better days, perfect because I had hoped to find tables I could “distress”. I sanded them down and got this awesome rustic look. The red shaggy carpet was my compromise with hubz, I decorated how I wanted he got his rug ( we looked at woodland printed ones but at $200 it was a solid NO) the rug goes with the colours I picked to go with mostly wood things, red, brown, navy blue, and grey. More lanterns and those round coasters made by me a few years ago, a tree design I wood burned in.

A cabin needs pillow for lounging, I made these pillow cases and curtain from a flannel top sheet I found brand new at a thrift store.

I redid a vintage desk a few year back and it sits in one corner with my sewing stuff and for our computer in the other corner we found a “vintage” reproduction desk on clearance.

I am so far behind on others blogs. I am taking a day of catching up with some of my favorite posters. I think all your thrift store remakes look great, you really made a home out of your cabin. Always love hunting for vintage items to redo. I am working on a chair bench at the moment, hope I finish it this week.
