Truth be told I even made some in Halloween colours for our Halloween tree. The tree was destroyed in the flood as was all of the handmade ornaments.
I was so excited to finally have a Halloween tree and I only had it 2 years before it was destroyed last spring,I miss it but not sure yet I want to start all over.
With christmas in July in full swing I’m sharing today the crochet pattern for these mini stockings (or make them in Halloween colours, call them socks) If your like me its time to start those Christmas Crafts, for me also its time to think of summerween in August when I’m in full Halloween craft mode.
Once you work a few up I warn you they are addicting as they work up quickly and are great stash busters, also perfect for thrift store yarns.
You can use them simply on your trees, on garlands, or fill with treats to give away.
Work up 24, fill them with treats and use for Christmas count downs, I’ve seen them hung on ladders which is super cute but if your like me and nowhere to place the ladder, fill them and pile them in a basket or box or on a garland filled with your treats.
They also make great gift tags. I have included printable tags below that fit nicely inside that you can use for names, print them on card stock, the recipients then can use the stocking on their tree.
MINI STOCKINGS
4PLY WOOL AND HOOK 4mm FOR ORNAMENT
HOOK 5mm FOR GIFT CARD HOLDERS
WOOL NEEDLE FOR SEWING
HDC-HALF DOUBLE CROCHET
YOUR CHAIN 2 AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH ROW COUNTS AS 1 HDC
( )- TOTAL STITCHES IN THAT ROW
MAGIC RING – 10 HDC INTO IT, SLIP STITCH AT THE END AND TIGHTEN YOUR MAGIC RING
ROUND 2: CHAIN 2 THEN 2 HDC IN EACH STITCH AROUND (20) SLIP STITCH AT THE END
( WORK IN THE TAIL FROM TIGHTENING THE MAGIC RING AS I STITCH THE SECOND ROW)
ROUND 3 TO 6 :CHAIN 2 THEN HDC AROUND (20) SLIP STITCHING AT THE ENDS
HEEL: CHAIN 2 THEN 9 MORE HDC ACROSS FOR 3 ROWS (10), CAST OFF LEAVING A TAIL LONG ENOUGH TO SEW IT SHUT LATER. (SEE PICS BELOW)
“LEG” PART : START WITH CHAINING 2 -THAT IS YOUR FIRST HDC INTO THE 1ST STITCH OF THE HEEL TOP,THEN HDC AROUND AND END WITH YOUR 20TH STITCH AT THE OTHER END OF THE HEEL TOP
SLIP STITCH HEEL TOGETHER (20 TOTAL)
*this part can be tricky to get exactly only 20 stitches, a hint is you need to try to work in 5 stitches into the heel part at the beginning and the end, 10 on the rounded part of the foot.
CONTINUE HDC AROUND (20)
TOTAL ROWS SHOULD BE 7-9 ROW, INCLUDING ANY “CUFF OF 2 TO 3 ROWS)
YOU WILL NEED TO SEW THE “HEEL” SHUT ON THE INSIDE, FLIP YOUR STOCKING INSIDE OUT AND SEW IT SHUT WITH A WOOL NEEDLE.
